Illamasqua has been, by far, my favourite cruelty-free makeup discovery. They have a punk kind of vibe (which pleases 17-year-old rock chick me) and offer high quality products and beautiful collections for everyone to enjoy – most recently, they released Dusk, a range specifically designed for Middle Eastern customers.
With Hydra Veil and Skin Base foundation having both become makeup bag staples, I was keen to add some more Illamasqua products to my growing collection, so I gave their London store a visit. It’s a little more chilled out than their counter in Selfridges, so if you’re in the city I’d definitely recommend stopping by!
For anyone who uses a similarly priced brand – like MAC or Nars – I would strongly recommend considering a switch to Illamasqua. Before I adopted a cruelty-free lifestyle, I regarded those brands as the creme de la creme of mid-range beauty. However, I’ve found that switching to Illamasqua has introduced me to a plethora of gorgeous products, made to suit a wide range of skin tones and types.
Here are four basic pieces that I’d certainly suggest you check out!
I’ve written about this product, and my love for it, before. As I’m now onto my second pot, I can safely confirm that it has caused me no breakouts (hurrah!) and I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in the longevity of my foundation. There is also a matt veil available, if you prefer that to a more dewy finish.
Try instead of Nars Pore Refining Primer / MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance
2 | Skin Base Foundation in 3.5
This foundation glides over my Lush moisturiser and Hydra Veil primer so beautifully. During the summer months, I’ve been mixing it with GOSH’s BB Cream which creates a bronzed finish. Now that I’m using a proper foundation brush to apply it (more on that soon!) I’m finding that Skin Base provides me with an even, porcelain base, which has so far stayed in place through the summer heat.
Try instead of Nars Luminous foundation / MAC Studio Fix
3 | Skin Base Lift Brightening Concealer in Light 2
I use concealer to tone down blemishes (mostly around my chin and nose) as well as to brighten dark under-eye circles. As this one is illuminating, I’m not sure how it’ll fare as a cover-up, but so far I am seeing that it does a great job of brightening the under-eye area.
Try instead of Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer / MAC Studio Finish SPF35 Concealer
After a long break of wearing blush (does anyone else double up their lipstick du jour as a blush? haha) I decided to give this one a try. There are so many colours to choose from, and this time around I went for Dixie, a really sweet rose pink. It goes on nice and sheer, providing a subtle glow which I’m sure will work well when the weather starts to cool down, too.
Try instead of Nars Illuminator / MAC Cream Colour Base
Next on my Illamasqua wish list are the Eye Brow Cake and translucent loose powder. Have you had a look at their range?
